When shampooing, try to apply and lather the shampoo on your hair nearest your scalp, this removes the oil and hair product gunk but doesn't strip the rest of your hair of the good oils it needs to be shiny and healthy.

When conditioning, apply to the longer parts of your hair and leave in while you finish the rest of your shower routine. This avoids putting too much conditioning oils back near your scalp.

Light shampoo everyday (just a quick lather and rinse) and conditioner every 2nd or 3rd day (depending on how oily or dry your hair is).

Doing it this way might actually help with your dandruff prob.
I wash my hair once every 3 days. It seems to work ok
Use a dandruff shampoo atleast once a week. While you still have the shampoo in your hair use a fine tooth comb and while making sure your hitting the scalp comb through it. ( If you have long hair, use a wide tooth comb first or you never get the fine tooth comb through it. ) Then rinse as usual. Don't use a spray on conditioner, use a regular one. If you do this on a regular basis your dandruff should be a thing of the past.
wet hair, lather, work through hair, rinse with cool water. Add conditioner work from roots to ends, let sit for up to 5 minutes rinse with cool water , towel dry, add leave -in conditioner comb through gently. Every other week I do this. Never had dandruff.
Lather, rinse, repeat. No, I don't have dandruff. I wash my hair once daily.
Selsun Blue or Head and shoulders. Depending on your hair and its oiliness, every other day is probably a good frequency.

Just shampoo massaging your scalp, rinse, then repeat. End with a conditioner and then rinse really well with a little cooler water to seal in the moisture into the hair shaft.
